Fenerbahçe: Back-to-back defeats

This week in Turkish Airlines EuroLeague, Fenerbahçe Beko will host KK Partizan at Fenerbahçe Ülker Sports and Event Hall on the evening of 22 December.

 

Last week was a double-game week in the EuroLeague. Fenerbahçe closed the week with two defeats. In the last match of the previous week, Fenerbahçe hosted Cazoo Baskonia and left the game with a 70-76 defeat. Turkish side completed the first two quarters 13-21 and 33-51 behind, respectively. While the second half started with reciprocal baskets, Fenerbahçe reduced the gap to 15 with Marko Guduric's point. Fenerbahçe first reduced the gap to 7, thanks to Melih Mahmutoğlu’s successively produced points, and then to 4 by Marko Guduric’s three-pointer scored in a fast attack. But these attacks were not enough, and the third quarter ended 56-67, in favour of Baskonia. At the beginning of the last quarter, Fenerbahce had a hard time with the hoop. One minute left to the end of the game, the lead dropped to 6 with the points Dyshawn Pierre scored from the foul line. Forcing their opponents to make mistakes, Fenerbahçe reduced the difference to 4 with Carsen Edwards. Fenerbahçe should have been more productive while the gap was narrow, but they weren’t, and Baskonia left the court with a 70-76 victory.

 

Marko Guduric was the top scorer in this match. Guduric played for 30:01 minutes, finishing the game with 14 points, 2 rebounds, and 3 assists. Tonye Jekiri played very effectively with 12 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assists.

 

In the second match of the previous week, KK Partizan hosted Anadolu Efes. We saw the control of the game changing hands quite a few times. It was hard to guess who the winners would be until the end of the match. While the hosts finished the first quarter ahead, Anadolu Efes took the lead in the second and third quarters. In the last quarter, Partizan did not quit the game and won 82-79.
